Sheldon Suga is no stranger to the Gaylord family of convention hotels. He comes to the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in National Harbor, Md., from its older sibling, the Gaylord Palms Resort & Convention Center in Orlando, Fla., where he served for two years as Vice President and Hotel Manager. In his new position at Gaylord National Resort, Suga will oversee all facets of the resort and convention center operations.
Suga’s wealth of hospitality experience spans more than two decades. Before joining the Gaylord Hotels, Suga served as General Manager at six different hotel properties around the world.
He oversaw all aspects of hotel and casino operations as general manager of Wyndham Condado Plaza Hotel & Casino in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Prior to that, Suga was a management
consultant, helping hotel companies to formulate, implement and achieve their strategic plans. He also served as vice president and country manager for ITT Sheraton in Japan, where he oversaw joint operational and marketing issues. During his 24 years with ITT Sheraton, Suga was general manager at properties in Los Angeles, San Diego, Halifax and Hartford. His other career assignments have taken him to many additional cities, including Chicago, St. Louis, New Orleans, West Palm Beach, Montreal and Toronto.
Suga received his formal education at Ryerson University in Hotel and Restaurant Administration. He has received numerous awards including the ITT Ring of Quality Gold Team Award and Hotel of the Year for ITT Sheraton North America.
A native of Montreal, Suga has working knowledge of French and Japanese. His personal hobbies and interests include running, fly fishing and golf. email to a friend print
