Regardless of the weather outside, you’ll find flowers blooming all year round at Gaylord Palms! Our popular Central Florida resort is known for its sprawling 4.5 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens all situated under our temperature controlled atrium!
Our grounds boast a remarkable 500,000 individual plants and flowers, including 42 different species of palm trees. It takes a team of 12 talented horticulturists to maintain the gardens and keep the vegetation looking lush. The flowers are seasonally specific and undergo a complete overhaul an impressive seven times a year!
The beginning of May marks the introduction of the summer vegetation and the planting of kalanchoes—a bright, succulent, tropical flower. We encourage you to discover your green thumb this season with tips from our head horticulturist, Tristen Bowen:
- Choosing the right flower can be one of the most difficult tasks. You’ll need to select a flower that is able to grow and prosper in your climate.
- Pick a location in your yard that is favorable for maximum growth. If your plant requires a ton of sunlight, put it in an area that receives sun exposure all day.
- Pre-treat the soil. Prior to planting, make sure you amend the existing soil with a fluffy potting mix containing peat and rich organic material.
- The depth placement of the root ball is critical. You want to plant the flower so the root ball is exactly the same depth as the bed, if not a smidge higher. You do not want your flower to settle deep or the crown of your plant to be covered with soil.
- Make sure your new plants are watered daily for at least two weeks until they can establish themselves.
- Sit back and enjoy watching your flowers bloom!

Guests of
Gaylord Palms are invited to schedule a tour of the beautiful gardens through our concierge. Call 407-586-2236 to make your appointment with our horticulture experts today!
