Gaylord Texan Prepares Local Talent
Gaylord Texan Partners with the Grapevine Colleyville ISD to offer a unique educational program for the young culinary talent of tomorrow
Grapevine, TX—( May 27, 2010 )The kitchen is busy, as you would expect at the massive Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center. You hear the sounds you expect to hear in a busy kitchen… chopping, brazing, sautéing….and teaching. Teaching? A group of young chefs, comprised of Grapevine and Colleyville Heritage culinary arts students participating in a pilot culinary program between the resort and school district, is excitedly wrapping up their final project.
Sixteen students, comprised of both juniors and seniors, chosen to participate in the exclusive culinary program gained skills in both the classroom and the resort’s kitchen. The program’s curriculum is provided by the state; but the passion, experience, and motivation are all local.
“If you like the thought of home grown food, how does home grown talent sound? That’s what we’re growing here….talent, knowledge, experience, and passion,” said Ty Thoren, Gaylord Texan’s Executive Chef. “We are proud to be a part of developing the interest and experience of these future chefs.”
On May 28th, as part of their final grade, each of the young student chefs will prepare and present their final restaurant concept and entrée. Each meal will be judged on taste and presentation by Gaylord Texan executives and Grapevine Colleyville ISD staff, including the two high school principals.
As this school year concludes, applications are already being submitted for 2010 – 2011 program. Current students have shared their experiences with their friends and the demand greatly exceeds the supply of spots, as class size is limited to sixteen.
