From the beaches of Key West to the Florida’s pristine Emerald Coast, sand sculpting is a Sunshine State tradition! In honor of this unique art form, Gaylord Palms features an ever-changing exhibition of sand sculptures in the Key West atrium.
The Gaylord Palms sand displays are created using 2 TONS of sand! It takes about 3 days – and 60 worker hours – to complete each sculpture. Unlike short-lived outdoor displays, the Gaylord sculptures can last for more than six months inside the enclosed weather-protected atrium. Regardless, the Gaylord Palms sand sculptures change out several times a year!
These structures are created using building blocks of sand that are sculpted into figures. Once finished, they are sprayed with a thin coat of diluted Elmer’s Glue to help keep moisture in the sand.
The Gaylord Palms displays are created by a team of artists who have won many awards, including local, state and international honors.
