Belmont Mansion

A Nashville Tennessee Attraction

The 1853 home of Adelicia Acklen is a story rich in art, wealth, fashion, architecture, tradition and romance. The Belmont Mansion is an Italianate-style villa.

Following the death of her first husband, Ms. Acklen was one of the wealthiest women in America. She and her second husband, Joseph, began building the Belle Monte in 1849. The 19,000 square foot elaborate antebellum home had 36 rooms, including an art gallery, conservatories, lavish gardens, aviary, lake and zoo.

Four sculptures from Rome still remain in the mansion today as do the gilt frame mirrors hanging over the original marble mantels, and the Grand Salon is considered by architectural historians to be the most elaborate domestic interior built in antebellum Tennessee.

The Belmont Mansion is open to the public Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m.
