Gaylord Hires Approximately 75 Percent of Former Employees During Week Long Rehire Event

New Hire Event Scheduled This Fall—Approximately 400-500 Jobs Available

Nashville, Tenn—( August 20, 2010 )

This week Gaylord Entertainment had a homecoming of sorts as it welcomed back employees, also known as STARS, that were formerly let go. Gaylord has successfully hired back approximately 75 percent of its former employees, during their week-long Grand Rehiring Event at the Radisson Opryland Hotel that started on Sunday, August 15. After a strong response from former STARS, Gaylord has had to extend the rehire event into next week.

The company was forced to release these STARS after unprecedented flooding in the Nashville area shut down the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center and other Gaylord properties.

“It was essentially a week long homecoming celebration as we reconnected with our STARS,” said Pete Weien, senior vice president and general manager of Gaylord Opryland. “STARS who were let go received benefits paid through September, and most of them will be starting back full time in October. It’s been great to welcome them back to the Opryland family.”

“Now that the first phase of rehiring is near completion, we are positioned to open up 400 to 500 jobs to the general public. This will allow us to hire new STARS and invite them to be a part of our family.”

During the rehiring process, former STARS met one-on-one with department leaders and discussed the upcoming schedule for training and reorientation. Gaylord has taken advantage of this opportunity while the hotel is closed to review its policies and procedures for all departments and to develop new standards for training and customer service. STARS rejoining the organization will begin the company’s new training program in mid-October before starting work at the hotel preparing for the grand reopening.

“When we reopen and bring this iconic hotel back to life on November 15, 2010, it is going to be one exciting celebration,” said Weien. “Our hotel staff is a major part of the guest experience here at the Opryland Hotel. We pride ourselves on the fact that our STARS are some of the best trained and experienced hospitality staff in the business.”
