Course is Third of Gaylord’s Flood-Affected Properties to Reopen

Nashville, Tenn—( July 27, 2010 )

With summer in full swing, golfers across the mid-state will once again have a premiere course on which to play. Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center is pleased to announce the reopening of Gaylord Springs Golf Links, which has been closed since the historic floods that ravaged Middle Tennessee in May 2010. The course, located five minutes from the resort, officially opened again for business to the public on the afternoon of Saturday, July 24, 2010.

“The course at Gaylord Springs Golf Links has never looked better, and the clubhouse has been completely been redesigned,” said Pete Weien, senior vice president and general manager of Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center. “We have been hard at work, completely renovating that space, making major improvements and enhancements, including a newer grill room, additional meeting and banquet facilities and a first-class pro shop. Everyone at Gaylord Springs is excited to welcome our guests once again.”

As part of its grand reopening today, Gaylord Springs Golf Links hosted a “Best Media Golfer in Nashville” contest, consisting of three skill competitions. Media representatives from across Music City participated in the “closest to the hole” and “longest drive” events. The winner of the contest was Neil Orne for WKRN. A tour of the clubhouse, still under renovation, was also given, highlighting the new space and grill room. Tonight, country music star Daryl Worley will kick off the Shoney's Boy Scout Navigators Event with a concert for sponsors of the event. The tee time for that tournament is 8:30 a.m. tomorrow. The concert and golf tournament are designed to raise money for the Navigators Scholarship program, which is offered by Shoney’s and the Boy Scouts’ Middle Tennessee Council to students in the AVID program at Metro Nashville Public Schools.

Gaylord Springs Golf Links will also offer a special one-day, triple play tournament on Saturday, August 28, 2010, consisting of six holes of “best ball,” six holes of “alternate shot” and six holes of a “scramble.” The day of the tournament will also consist of prize giveaways, food and beverage specials and more. The cost for the triple play is $75 per day per person.

Gaylord Springs Golf Links is one of three Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center-owned and operated attractions. The others, the Wildhorse Saloon and the General Jackson Showboat, both reopened June 5, 2010, after repairs were made to those attractions’ flood-affected areas. Gaylord Opryland Resort is scheduled to reopen November 15, 2010, in time for its 27th annual A Country Christmas event. With the reopening of Gaylord Springs Golf Links, players will once again be able to play on the Scottish, links-style course that was recently named “Best Golf Course” in the 2010 Tennessean “Toast of Music City” awards. In addition, it has been named “Best Place to Play Golf” by Golf Digest magazine and has been awarded Meetings & Conventions’ “Gold Tee Award for Excellence.”
