"The element that works for the Grinch at ICE! featuring How the Grinch Stole Christmas! is that the sculptures are set in his territory. It is not at the beach, it is not at an amusement park, it is in ice. And the Grinch thrives in ice," exclaims Audrey Geisel, widow of Dr. Seuss (Theodor Geisel) and self-proclaimed "mother of the Grinch." "The whole thing is quite spectacular and totally unusual."
This icy attraction will be a part of Gaylord Opryland's highly popular "A Country Christmas," which includes a wide variety of holiday shows and activities. ICE! will tell the book's story by recreating the wonderful features Grinch fans have come to adore, in larger-than-life, intricately carved, interactive ice sculptures. Some of the sculptures will weigh more than two tons each.
"The Grinch has a unique way of bringing out the Christmas spirit in almost everybody who sees him. Even the grouchiest 'scrooges' will have their hearts grow as a result of this attraction," said Pete Weien, senior vice president and general manager, Gaylord Opryland Hotel & Convention Center. "ICE! featuring How the Grinch Stole Christmas! is truly the only exhibit of its kind in the United States, and we are excited to celebrate Christmas with the Grinch in his last year at the hotel. We are sure that it will bring a lot of joy to children AND adults this holiday season."
Starting at the Grinch's frozen mountaintop lair, to the 20-foot high slides for kids and built-in photo opportunity stops, down to the picturesque Who-ville, complete with feasting Whos and Max, the Grinch's loyal canine companion, ICE! featuring the How The Grinch Stole Christmas! will make even the coldest of hearts grow three sizes.
ICE! featuring the How The Grinch Stole Christmas!, will be created by 35 artisans who migrate to Nashville from Harbin, China to craft this elaborate attraction out of 1.5 million pounds of ice. It takes them nearly an entire month of twelve-hour shifts to transform the theater where the exhibit is held into a remarkable icy wonderland.
The fun begins November 14, 2008, and runs through January 4, 2009. It will be open seven days a week with times ranging from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., depending on the day of the week. Ticket prices range from $14 (child) to $22 (adult), depending on the day. Children ages 3 years and under are free.
