Randy Miller, Vice President of Sales
Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center

Our goal is to become the best sales team in the industry, providing industry leading revenues and profitability. We will get there by the development of proprietary databases, systems and processes and the development of a distinct sales culture.

A landmark resort with nearly 3,000 guestrooms and more than 600,000 square feet of meeting and exhibition space to fill might seem a daunting task to someone responsible for acquiring business. But Randy Miller, vice president of sales for Gaylord Opryland® Resort & Convention Center, approaches this responsibility with a gracious, soft-spoken demeanor and leads his team to huge levels of success. Since joining Gaylord Opryland in 2004, Miller has been a part of--and contributed--to a resort that books more meeting and convention business than any property in the world.

The native Californian directs a sales process with a sales team of 55. He is responsible for acquiring and maintaining customers as well as overseeing recovery efforts. Although the hotel industry was not his first career choice, it was a job in convention services at the New York Sheraton in 1981 that turned his attention to sales, where he was eventually recruited. He has remained in the field for more than two decades and continues to prosper.

During 1999 and 2000, Miller was vice president of sales at the Gaylord Palms® Resort & Convention Center in Kissimmee, Florida, which opened for business in 2002. From 2001 to 2003, he developed the brand’s customer retention and acquisition efforts while serving as senior vice president for Gaylord Hotels®.

He also has worked with other industry leaders, such as the Ritz-Carlton, Omni, Visa USA, Wyndham, Universal Studios and Loews Hotels and a few notable independent resorts like La Costa Resort & Spa and South Seas Resort.

Miller attended Frammingham State College in Massachusetts. He currently sits on the marketing committee for the Nashville Convention and Visitors Bureau. He has served Meeting Professionals International (MPI) on the marketing committee, was chairman of the Meeting Professional Magazine Advisory Board and currently serves on the board of trustees for the MPI Foundation. Miller also served on the VISIT FLORIDA marketing board and the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) membership committee. He was chairman of the Walt Disney World Area Resorts marketing council and served on the marketing committee for American Hotel and Lodging Association. He is a member of MPI, ASAE, International Association of Exhibition Managers, Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International, Professional Conference Management Association and Society of Incentive Travel Executives.

Outside of work and the hotel industry, Miller enjoys music, reading and exercising. He and his wife, Ginny, have two grown children, Georgia and Trey.
