Gaylord National’s Smash-Hit Holiday Attraction ICE! Brings the Story of ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas’ to the Washington D.C. Region

National Harbor, Md.—( July 21, 2010 )
Grinch in DC
This holiday season, Gaylord National Resort’s smash-hit holiday attraction returns to the Washington D.C. region, but with a brand-new, exciting theme. The 2010 edition of Gaylord National’s ICE! will bring to life the story of the Dr. Seuss holiday classic: “How The Grinch Stole Christmas,” brilliantly showcasing how the “Who-ville-hating” Grinch with a heart two sizes too small learns the true meaning of Christmas.

The amazing walk-through attraction will feature famous scenes from the Dr. Seuss classic storybook carved completely out of ice. Visitors will walk through the Grinch’s frozen mountaintop lair and see the picturesque village of Who-ville, including the Who’s roast-beast feast. They can meet the Grinch’s devoted companion, Max the dog, and his favorite Who, named Cindy Lou – both sculpted in ice. There’s even 20-foot-tall slides made of ice, designed for kids and big kids alike to race down. The attraction is fully interactive, allowing visitors to roam inside, around and on-top of scenes.

Beginning in early October, a group of 40 master artisans will travel to the resort from Harbin, China – known as the world’s “ice city” for its spectacular outdoor ice sculpture festival – to transform 5,000 blocks of ice weighing TWO MILLION POUNDS into magnificent, full-color and life-size ice sculptures. The entire construction process takes approximately 40 days to complete.

The indoor attraction is housed in a 15,000-square-foot structure specially created and thickly insulated to maintain its internal temperature of nine degrees Fahrenheit. To stay comfortable inside, guests are loaned oversized winter coats to wear. After experiencing ICE!, guests can also enjoy many other fun activities, including an Indoor Ice Skating Rink, Mrs. Claus’ Christmas Crafts Corner and a Holiday Gift Shop.
