Gaylord National’s Culinary Team Enhances SummerFest With New Food & Beverage Tasting Experiences

As part of Gaylord National Resort’s annual SummerFest, an event offering special activities, live entertainment and “All-American” fun all summer long, the hotel’s culinary team introduces two new experiences: Taste of Gaylord National and Old Hickory’s Wine & Cheese Classes. These new culinary offerings are sure to spice things up this summer at one of the region’s hottest new destinations, letting visitors sample creative cuisine at four signature restaurants.

 

Taste of Gaylord National

Every Friday in August, visitors can kick-off their weekend with the Taste of Gaylord National experience, a sampling of four food and beverage pairings for $20. As visitors stroll through the resort’s indoor atrium featuring lush gardens, live music, restaurants and retail shops, they will discover four tasting stations located at each of the signature restaurants. By showing their Taste of Gaylord National Passport, guests will enjoy a delectable food sample paired with a two-ounce adult beverage sample at each tasting station:

  • Old Hickory Steakhouse, the resort’s fine dining experience, will present Ossau-Iraty Artisanal Cheese paired with a glass of Honig Sauvignon Blanc. This pairing was created by the restaurant’s own Maitre d’Fromage.
  • Moon Bay Coastal Cuisine, known for contemporary seafood favorites, will present its signature Crispy Fried Calamari with Citrus Emulsion paired with a Moon Bay Breeze Cocktail.
  • Pienza Italian Market, the resort’s market-style eatery, will present Lobster Fritters paired with a glass of its signature house-made Red Sangria.
  • National Pastime Sports Bar & Grill will present its mouth-watering Steak Sandwich with Onion Sauce paired with Loose Cannon IPA Maryland craft brew.

Event Dates: Every Friday in August (Aug. 6, 13, 20, 27)

Time: 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

Cost: $20 per person, includes four food and beverage tastings, and a complimentary recipe card showcasing the featured menu items.

To Purchase: The Taste of Gaylord National Passport can be purchased at the Java Coast coffee shop, located on the resort’s Atrium Level. No advance reservations are necessary.

*During the event, guests will make their way to each of the Taste of Gaylord National stations in the four restaurants. Once guests have enjoyed each tasting, their Passport will be stamped. Once fully stamped, the Passport entitles them to receive 10 percent off their entire meal at any of the participating restaurants (discount excludes alcohol; valid any day through Sept. 6, 2010).

 

Old Hickory’s Wine & Cheese Classes

Join our resident cheese expert, Carolyn Stromberg, Maitre d’Fromage at Old Hickory Steakhouse, for a series of fun and educational wine and cheese classes. Stromberg will lead her guests through these interesting culinary experiences featuring unique pairings based upon her impressive knowledge of artisanal cheeses and fine wines.

  • Saturday, August 14 – Summer Sensations: Wine & Cheese for Warm Weather
  • Saturday, August 21 – Bubbles & Cheese: Pairing Cheese with Sparkling Wine
  • Saturday, August 28 – Valle Padania: Northern Italian Wine & Cheese
  • Saturday, September 4 – Not Your Mom’s American Cheese: Best of the Artisanal U.S.

Event Time: 4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Cost: $30 per person (hotel guests); $40 per person (non-hotel guests), includes four wine and cheese pairings.

*Based on availability, a limited number of walk-up tickets may be available on the same day of the event. Seats will be limited for each class, allowing guests to enjoy an intimate setting and interact with Stromberg for an enjoyable learning experience.
